The children of Hanoi are perhaps the friendliest we’ve encountered anywhere in the world, and clearly they are not burdened by the conflicts between our countries.

I did my part to mend fences today when I was surrounded by dozens and dozens of enthusiastic Vietnamese schoolchildren, all of whom wanted to “high five” the American in their midst. They were insatiably curious, wanting to know my name, where I was from, what kind of phone I used, etc.

We were attempting to visit a temple, but these adorable kids literally blocked my path! Kevin teased that I should run for mayor of Hanoi.

It was such a delightful experience and one of the highlights of our trip so far.
